Troubleshooting--Offshore w/Effluent Pump & Panel

Problem Possible Causes Corrective Action
Foul odor from tank/improper blower operation 1. The blower is not turned on. 1. Turn blower on.
2. In older belt driven units, belt may be broken or slipping. 2. Replace or tighten belt
3. Blower switch is not in automatic. 3. Place blower switch to automatic.
4. The timer switch, inside the control panel, is not in the center position. 4. Place timer switch in center position.
5. Blower inlet filter has not been replaced. 5. If filter is dirty, it must be replaced.
Unit is backed up / does not discharge 1. Circuit breaker may be tripped. 1. Reset breaker.
2. Pump switch is not in ‘auto' position. 2. Place pump switch in ‘auto' position.
3. Pump isolation valve is shut. 3. Open pump isolation valve.
4. Discharge check valve is stuck. 4. Un-stick or replace check valve.
5. Pump switch or pump itself is bad. 5. Replace either switch or pump.
6. Unit is filled with sludge. 6. Pump out and restart unit.
Effluent water does not meet purity standards 1. Blower switch is not in ‘automatic' position. 1. Place switch in ‘automatic' position.
2. Chlorine concentration is too low. 2. Clean chlorine tube and add chlorine tablets.
3. Biological organisms in tank have died due to use of unauthorized cleaning agents or anti-bacterial chemicals. 3. Discontinue use of unauthorized chemicals and add 2 oz. of Formula 101 per 500 gallons.
4. Design capacity is being exceeded. 4. Call your local Owens KLEEN TANK distributor, or the manufacturer, for proper sizing information.
